How to Play Ludo: A Step-by-Step Guide

Ludo is a classic board game that’s simple, fun, and perfect for players of all ages. Whether you’re playing with friends, family, or online opponents, Ludo offers hours of entertainment. Here’s a quick guide to help you get started and master the game.
What You Need
- A Ludo board
- Four tokens for each player (in colors red, blue, green, and yellow)
- A single die
- 2-4 players
Objective of the Game
The goal of Ludo is to move all your tokens from the starting area to the home triangle by traveling around the board. The first player to get all their tokens home wins the game.
Game Setup
- Each player picks a color and places their four tokens in the matching starting area.
- Decide the order of turns by rolling the die—the highest roll goes first.
- Play proceeds clockwise around the board.
How to Play
- Rolling the Die: On your turn, roll the die. You need a 6 to move a token from the starting area onto the board. If you roll a 6, you also get an extra turn.
- Moving Your Tokens: Once a token is on the board, move it forward by the number shown on the die. You can only move one token per roll.
- Capturing Opponent Tokens: If your token lands on a square occupied by an opponent’s token, their token is sent back to their starting area, and they’ll need to roll a 6 to bring it back onto the board.
- Safe Zones: Squares marked with a star are safe zones. Tokens on these squares cannot be captured by opponents.
- Getting Home: To move a token into the home triangle, you need an exact roll. For example, if your token is three spaces away, you must roll a 3 to move it home.
Winning the Game
The first player to get all four tokens to their home triangle is declared the winner. The remaining players can continue to compete for second and third place if desired.
Tips and Strategies
- Be Strategic with Your Moves: Prioritize getting all tokens onto the board, but also consider protecting your tokens in safe zones.
- Block Your Opponents: Use your tokens to block opponents from advancing.
- Keep Rolling 6s: Take advantage of extra rolls when you land a 6.
